[Collection] Vredeborch Vredebox
My love for film cameras started when my grandfather died in 2009 and I inherited this Vredeborch Vredebox. It had been standing on the mantelpiece for years, when we were little my sister and I played with it, that’s how it got all beaten up. After taking it home, I realised that the camera still works and I can actually take pictures with it. I put a roll of ilford delta 3200, took some pictures with it and got hooked.
The camera, pictured below is an another Vredebox I purchased a couple of months later on 2dehands.be in mint condition for 10 euro.
The Vredebox is an box-camera that takes 120 film and makes 6×9 cm photos. The aperture is f11, but there’s also a lever to change the aperture to f16. The shutter time is 1/30th of a second. The camera also features a yellow filter to enhance contrast and minimize camera shake. The camera was manufactured by a german company Vredeborch GmbH. Vredeborch was a camera maker based in Nordenham, a town at the German North Sea coast. The name of the company was derived from the Vredeborch (=Friedeburg (German), pax castle (English)) which stood at the beginning of the city’s history in 1404. The company was founded in 1945 and stopped camera making in 1970 due to heavy competition from Japanese companies.
I love taking pictures with the box, it’s all about the framing and nothing else.
